How will my course be bespoke?

Unlike some large Media Training consultants and their standardised format, which they roll out for all their clients, we create every course from scratch as a niche specialist agency. Clients tell us that they like the fact that the person that they speak to at Communicate Media Training is the person who delivers the training itself. Therefore, they get exactly what they want in terms of content, timing and budgetary considerations.

With Communicate Media, you don’t speak to a salesperson or intermediary – you talk to an experienced media trainer who can advise how to create a course that meets your exact needs.

They will then deliver it.

We can provide a wide variety of courses. This might be a brief one-to-one Media Training course, presentation course or message development session via Zoom or Teams, which takes only a couple of hours. At the other end of the scale, we can provide press, radio and TV training for six people or more. In each case, the point is that the participants get plenty of attention from the tutor, and each person can be sure that they will meet their training needs.

What are the benefits of Media Training for architects?

We work with architects from a wide variety of architectural practices in Britain and now, thanks to Zoom and Teams training, increasingly worldwide. Journalists covering architecture, design, infrastructure, and civic planning are always interested in hearing from architects.

The challenge for architects is to make their comments relevant to the audience and ensure that they get their message across during the interview. Journalists will often complain that architects and designers don’t come to the point quickly enough or don’t provide them with the kind of stories, case studies and even simple human anecdotes they’re always looking for.

The benefits of Media Training for architects, we find in our media training workshops for architecture practices, are that architects and others within the firm learn what the journalist is looking for and develop skills and techniques to deliver an interview that will help them and the journalist. Their confidence grows as we also look at how they can gain more control of the interview. Subsequently, when they see the final report, it has covered all of the points they wanted to cover. We help architects gain more control over media interviews to focus on their key message and avoid getting drawn to issues that might be difficult or irrelevant.

Why do you recommend architect Media Training?

We know that architecture is a competitive profession and that those architects and practices that gain the most positive and widespread publicity are more likely to secure the best commissions. Architects also do something of interest to the media and the public. Designing beautiful buildings, creating lovely homes, and attractive places for people to live, work and play ticks the “human” box in the newsworthiness ratings.

There is, therefore, definitely a demand amongst the media to speak to architects, but the problem is that all too often when an architect gets the opportunity to interview with a journalist, they don’t make the most of it. Perhaps they don’t understand what the journalist is looking for or how to use the opportunity to promote themselves in practice. We recommend that architects do Media Training to gain more control of media interviews, provide a journalist with what works for them, and meet their requirements in terms of publicity.

In our media interview coaching sessions for architects, we teach them to include the kind of stories, anecdotes and case studies journalists are always looking for. We advise how to get their messages across and avoid getting drawn into areas that might not be helpful. We also provide practical tips to allow architects to look and feel more confident on camera.

Why should architects attend Media Training?

We know that architects are busy people with packed schedules, and that’s why we ensure that our Media Training for architects is concise and intensive. Speaking to a journalist is both an opportunity and a risk for an architect. Architects should do Media Training to maximise the opportunities and mitigate the risks by understanding how to maintain more control of the interview. This involves identifying their key messages and getting them across effectively.

Architects should undergo Media Training to understand how to give the journalist what they want while also including comments, insights and other content that is useful for them and promotes their firm.

By doing Media Training courses, an architect or other spokesperson for the firm can ensure that they make the most of media opportunities and gain positive coverage that results in a higher public profile and new business as a result.
